Benefits And Tips For Storing Your RV

Posted on

So you just purchased your first RV and you're not sure how you'll store the unit during the off-season. Many people decide to keep their RV's stored in their yard during the winter months, which is fine if you don't live in a climate that gets extreme winter weather. But if you do live where it snows often, and the winter seems to drag on forever, you may consider putting your RV into storage. This article will give you an idea as to why storing an RV inside a storage facility, such as Epic Group Inc, is a good idea, and what you need to do to prepare your RV for storage.

Benefits of RV Storage

There are a number of different benefits to storing your RV inside a storage facility, including the following:

  • Weather. This is the most obvious reason why storing your RV inside a storage facility is a good idea. You won't need to winterize your RV to start with, and there won't be any weather related or sun damage to your RV. Your RV comes out of the storage facility the same way it looked when it went in.
  • Damage or Theft. Storing your RV inside of a storage facility protects your RV from malicious wrongdoing, theft, or another unforeseen accident.
  • Insurance benefits. Many insurance companies will give you a discount for storing your RV in a safe environment during the off-season.
  • Rodents. Rodent invasion is a big problem for those who store their RV's outdoors. Mice and other rodents are looking for warm places to stay during the cold months, and your camper is just the place for them to take shelter.
  • Code violation. Some municipalities don't allow RV's and other recreational items to be stored year-round on private property. You may want to check your local zoning codes to be sure.

Preparing Your RV For Storage

As you prepare to store your RV in a storage facility, be sure to do the following:

  • Defrost your refrigerator and freezer, and thoroughly clean. Leave the doors open to air out and prevent mold from growing.
  • Turn the main breaker in your power distribution panel off. Turn the gas supply valve off as well.
  • Clean the air conditioner filters.
  • Leave the vent covers that are installed on the overhead vents open to allow for some ventilation. Since the RV is being stored inside, you don't have to worry about rain getting in.
  • Remove all batteries from clocks, smoke alarms and any other device that has batteries.

Talk with a local storage facility for other tips on storing your RV and other recreational equipment.
